FOVEA: task List

Code Name Responsible Description Progress
AD1 CERPT data Véronique Pois Compile data available at CERPT: stratigraphic slices of the geology, database "Tools", original human and animal fossils and make them available to the partners. 70 %
AD2 Lab. of Anthropology data Bertrand Mafart Choose in the collection of the laboratory the fossils and the tools that are the most representative and make them available to the partners. 60 %
AD3 Extern data Bertrand Mafart Acquire et compile data from laboratories that do not participate directly to the FOVEA Project. 20 %
AD4 3D digitization Bertrand Mafart, Gérard Subsol Set up a state-of-the-art of 3D digitization devices and methods (CT-Scan, stereoscopy, laser-based, etc.). Study the possibility to use the devices (cost, availability). 90 %
AD5 storing format Jean-Pierre Jessel, Gérard Subsol Study the storage format of data. This includes the graphic format but also the management of data description. 70 %
CP coordination Bertrand Mafart, Gérard Subsol Coordinate the paleontological (BM) and Computer Science research tasks of the FOVEA Project, manage the funding (BM), write the deliverables and update the Web site (GS). 100 %
DD1 scientific data server Bertrand Mafart, Jean-Pierre Jessel Set-up a first version of a Web server accessible to the scientific community where the virtual excavation site will be archived. 50 %
DD2 collaborative work system Jean-Pierre Jessel Assess the technical performances of the collaborative work system developed at IRIT on the very complex application that is virtual paleo-anthropological exvavation. 0 %
DD3 museographic presentation Véronique Pois Use all the results to prepare a presentation to the general audience in the frame of the Musée of Tautavel. It could be either a video or a Web site or an interactive console. 10 %
TD1 geoleogy modeling Hervé Delingette, Gérard Subsol Based on data AD1, build a 3D model of the cave and its subsoil. In a first phase, the model will be static and will be used fo visualization purposes. In a second phase, a physical behavior will be introduced in order to link the different geological layers and to develop deformation tools to study and recover the original configuration of the site. 40 %
TD2 environment modeling Jean-Pierre Jessel, Gérard Subsol Integrate the information of the CERPT database Paleontological Material in the virtual excavation site. Study the possibilities to digitize in 3D the found objects and to index them automatically. 30 %
TD3 fossil modeling Bertrand Mafart, Gérard Subsol Reconstruct the geometry of fossils based on their 3D images. Extract automatically some features to index them, compensate for the taphonomic deformations and make comparisons. 80 %
VD1 visualization Jean-Pierre Jessel Visualize in the most immersive manner the virtual excavation site. Different devices available at IRIT will be tested (projective wall, semi-immersive dome, immersive helmet, stereoscopic glasses). 60 %
VD2 haptic feedback Jean-Pierre Jessel, Gérard Subsol Study haptic feedback for modeling and interacting applications. Tests will be performed on the Phantom systems available at IRIT and in the EPIDAURE Project at INRIA. 10 %
VD3 stereolithography restitution Bertrand Mafart Obtain a 3D physical restitution of the fossils by stereolithography, after processing (e.g. compensation for taphonomic deformations). The restitution will be compared to the original fossil to estimate the errors introduced by the digitization and processing steps. 10 %
